Jobs Saves the Music Industry?
While he's at it, maybe he'll save the feature film industry, too

In this editorial, I'll start by writing about content creation. But as the train of thought rolls along -- I'm warning you -- I'll end up making comments about our society, freedom, and the way we choose to live our lives. And who will be at the center of this whirlwind tour of our industry and its relationship to the Meaning of Life? The blood-sucking, anachronistic music industry and its savior du jour, Apple CEO Steve Jobs, that's who.

Part 3: Pinnacle CTO Talks Compression
It's been a big year for compression, Pinnacle CTO Al Kovalick explains why

In the third of a three-part series of wide-ranging interviews with Pinnacle Systems executives at this year's National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) in Las Vegas, DMN's Charlie White talks with Al Kovalick, Pinnacle Systems' Chief Technical Officer/Broadcast Solutions Division. Kovalick talks about the current renaissance of compression technology, including Windows Media 9 and its counterpart, H.264.

Flash in the Can
Second all-Flash conference organized by Toronto Flash Users Group

While the major media has placed Toronto and prospective visitors north of the border into a panic attack due to the SARS scares, it did not stop organizers at Flash in TO user group from creating their second all-Flash conference called Flash in the Can. Last year's first show impressed many by the number of quality speakers and the unique concepts like the IronFlash competition (more on this later) as an alternative to the larger FlashForward and FlashKit conferences that have been takeing place since 2000.

Interactive QuickTime Authoring, Part Five
QuickTime Authoring and Macromedia's 800 lb. Gorilla

It's been quite some time since I've revisited this somewhat long-running series, and while I've had pressing issues such as the annual springtime mulch-a-thon and "Must See TV" to tend to, I figured what the hey, might as well crank out another QuickTime Authoring piece that I know DMN readers are so anxiously awaiting. This time we're going to set our sights on a program that many of you already have but may not be using in this capacity: Macromedia's Flash MX.
